Special attacks

Volley

You may fire up to as many barrels as are loaded as a single action, but they are all fired against a single target. You roll to attack as normal; if you hit, then you treat each bullet as
a separate hit. Armour protects against each bullet. The recoil for firing
more than one barrel is significant, and you must make a Difficult Strength + Firearms roll with 2 black dice per barrel fired, or else be knocked prone immediately after making your attack.

Spread

Your gun produces a spray of bullets or shot, good for taking some one down bad against armour.

Draw four locations for each target hit apply one quarter of the damage to each area round up. Then apply local Armour value.

Range Damage Penalty Targets Affected
Point Blank None One target
Close -1 Damage All targets with in 1 yard Diameter
Medium -2 Damage All targets with in 2 yards Diameter
Long -4 Damage All targets with in 2 yards Diameter
Extreme Ineffective

Ammo Type

Calibre / size of ammo and type.
C = Cartridge ammo fully contained. Lead bullet sealed over a Bass chamber full of gun powder with percussion cap at the end of the chamber to be struck by a guns hammer.
Pistol and Rifle cartridges are different lengths and cannot be interchanged even if the right Calibre.

B & C = Ball, Cap and powder You empty a package of gunpowder into the barrel, wrap a lead ball in a piece of leather, cloth or paper and ram it down the barrel. You then place a priming cap in the pan. When the trigger is pulled it propels the trigger hammer into the pan to ignite the cap which ignites the powder in the chamber.

Pow = Ball and loose powder. You empty 90% of a package of gunpowder into the barrel, wrap a lead ball in a piece of leather, paper or cloth and ram it down the barrel. The left over powder is then used to prime the pan. When the trigger is pulled it propels the trigger arm holding a flint into the pan to ignite the pan which ignites the powder in the chamber. Can fail to fire in wet weather.

Misfires and Jams

Guns of this era all use black powder with is more variable in capability than future smokeless powders. Ammo manufacturing is also less precise. Cartridge failure rates were expected at 5% , 10% for loose powder doubling in the wet.

When using loose powder Pow or B&C roll a D20 on 1-2 somethings gone wrong, 1-4 if its wet.
When using a cartridge roll D20 on a roll of 1 something has gone wrong.
For anything marked as prone to misfire or similar roll D20 rolling 1-3 or 1-6 if using loose powder in the wet means something has gone wrong.
